3G Stores

Value: £450,000

Client: Hutchinsons

Seeking to update its retail estate, Hutchinsons decided to embark on an ambitious programme of refurbishment of its 70 3G stores over a 4 month period. To maintain continuity of trading and to be finished in time for the all-important pre Christmas trading period, each refit was to be completed overnight leaving the store ready to resume trading the following morning.

Drawing on its experience of similar projects for other retailers including Superdrug Stores and McDonald’s, G&H were able to demonstrate the organisation, hands–on management and commitment sought by 3G.

A store survey was initially undertaken and the required furniture and fittings ordered. On the day, the refit team would start the strip out at 5.00pm having the store empty by 7:30pm. Next the floor was chased out, new cabling laid and floor reinstated. By 9:30pm the store was ready to accept the new fittings and furniture and these were installed, working through the night, so that by 4.00am the new rack shelving was ready to be re-merchandised with display product, leaving the store ready to trade at opening time.

Every store worked on by G&H successfully opened the following morning, guaranteeing the continuity of trading that was commercially crucial for the client. And getting G&H voted ‘Best Contractor’ into the bargain.
