Southern Print

Value: £1.5 million

Client: Southern Print

Southern Print is a major, award winning magazine and commercial printer. With an ongoing policy of regularly updating their presses and associated print equipment, the impending installation of new Heidelberg and MAN presses meant their two adjoining sites in Poole needed to be modified and extended in a phased programme of building works.

Having established a relationship with G&H over the past twenty years, Southern Print knew just who to turn to for the innovative thinking and pro-active planning that would be required to site and accommodate the new equipment and then synchronise the building works in readiness for its arrival.

Having established where the new equipment would be sited and the modifications to the structure of the buildings that would be required G&H set to work, altering and extending the buildings, constructing a new base for one machine and extending an existing base to site the other. To accommodate the new much larger MAN press, the main structural support bearing columns were re-sited and the overall height of the unit raised. In addition, further office space, a clean environment ‘ctp’ area, a new bindery and ink store were created as part of the ongoing works. Finally work to reduce noise and vibration pollution was carried out to minimise disturbance for local residents.

All the works were completed on budget and the newly modified units were ready to accept the new equipment exactly when it arrived. Southern Print is now in discussion with G&H for the next phase of work due to be implemented on 2009.
