Sheldon School Sixth Form
Value: £1.8 million
Client: Sheldon School Sixth Form
Sheldon School has a reputation for excellence and a rapidly expanding Sixth Form. After gaining funding from the Learning And Skills Council, the school wished to create a new Sixth Form comprising a number of classrooms, a learning and study centre, science laboratory and improved refectory and canteen facilities. With substantive completion required in readiness for the following autumn term, this was a project with a real sense of urgency.
With its experience of working in the educational sector, G&H were able to devise a two phased programme of works covering both building and hard landscaping which gave the client the assurance that the completion date they required could be achieved.
Work started on the first phase main building in September, with the erection of the steel structure to support the two floor construction. A feature curved roof with a Glulam beam vaulted ceiling was added - and glazed curtain walls and brick and render elevations completed the exterior. The second phase comprising a 1,000 sq metres paved and canopied seating area linking the original and new refectory/ canteen areas was then completed during the summer.
With both stages of the project being completed to time and budget, Sheldon School was able to have the new centre equipped and ready to welcome new students in September.
