London Tower Bridge Travelodge
Value: £7.4 million
Client: Travelodge Hotels Ltd.
Seeking to increase their capacity in the City of London, Travelodge acquired a four-storey office block on a confined site at Tower Hill and gained planning approval for a two-storey extension to create a 190 room hotel.
With difficult access requiring just in time deliveries, Travelodge needed a contractor who would pro-actively manage the logistics of the project and minimise disturbance. With a proven track record of converting town centre office blocks to hotel accommodation under its belt, G&H were the obvious choice for Travelodge to make.
G&H liaised carefully with the landlords of the building, the City of London, Transport for London and Network Rail to arrange a method and programme of works that was acceptable to all. The structure of the original building was strengthened and a Metsec two storey extension added.
A specially made access point was cut though the building to allow access for materials. Following completion of the structural alterations, G&H carried out a full fit out to Travelodge design standards incorporating a Bar Cafe area and reception at ground level.
By adopting a non-adversarial approach, G&H were able to complete the hotel to budget and ready to open as planned. The result - an impressed landlord and increased capacity for Travelodge enabling them to meet their growth targets for that year.
