G&H emerge as the preferred bidder for Lewis-Manning Hospice

This quarter G&H Group has secured a total of £12.5 million of new projects including a number of social projects that are central to our community.
This said, we are proud to emerge as the preferred bidder for Lewis-Manning Hospice; a facility that provides specialist palliative nursing care to over 600 local people each year living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
When local businesswoman, the late Marjorie Lewis-Manning left her beautiful house and its grounds to three trustees to continue her wish for a day hospice to be set-up in her home, they promised to champion the needs of those living with a life threatening illness. Although the home already adequately meets the needs of the residents, the trustees wish to create a 'future-proof' hospice to ensure the best possible care for patients with palliative care needs.
With due consideration to the sensitive planning conditions and the vital needs of the patients, we were able to work with the client to value-engineer the original scheme to create their dream hospice.
The £2.3 million project, due to start on site in the spring, will include the demolition of the existing building and erection of a new contemporary design that harmonises with the prestigious surroundings of Sandbanks in Dorset.
G&H Group Managing Director, Mark Allies comments:
“It has been a privilege to work on such an honourable facility, which is so important to patients during a time of need. Once on-site, it will be essential to deliver a speedy programme so that residents can return to the hospice as soon as possible. We also want to efficiently manage the budget donated by generous benefactors to provide a building that the Lewis-Manning staff will be proud of, so that they may continue to deliver a high level of care.”
Our design team incorporated the trustees’ ‘wish list’ for a light, spacious and restful facility which could accommodate the maximum number of overnight residents, without compromising the daytime space.
Design Manager, Mike Crane adds:
“Located in an area that is particularly sensitive to planning constraints, and offering a level of professional care that is much needed by it’s service users, Lewis Manning Hospice presented various challenges to achieve a new facility. By engaging with the client in open discussions, and listening to their requirements, we have been able to design a solution that meets their expectations.”
